For 5th Annual "Earth Day Kids Fest"

Time to Mother Earth!  We like to think that Earth Day is Everyday, but at the 5th Annual "Earth Day Kids Fest”  the  Chattahoochee Nature Center will be celebrating the 37th anniversary of Earth Day on Saturday, April 21st from 10 am to 3 pm.  The CNC is located at 9135 Willeo Road in Roswell.   Merrill Lynch applauds local organizations for joining forces to focus attention on the environment.  Over 28 groups are collaborating to increase public awareness around themes focused on the environment; global warming, renewable energy, natural resource and wildlife conservation.  All natural snacks will be provided by Whole Foods Market supporting Earth Day everyday! Sylvania/Osram will provide Compact Fluorescent bulbs that are Energy Star Qualified to the first 1000 attendees, encouraging them to save energy.

The Weather Channel will sponsor this event with a Weather Wall, an interactive display to explore the hot topic of global warming.  Meet Dr. Marcus Eriksen, the Director of Research and Education for the Algalita Marine Research Foundation who is featured on Commando Weather. Talented on-camera meteorologist, Nick Walker, author of “Sing Along with the Weather Dude”, will be on hand to teach children about weather and the environment through his lively music.

Billy B, the nationally known Environmental Entertainer Extraordinaire, will perform on the main stage under the big tent. His live musical performances burst with energy and generate enthusiasm in his audiences from Alaska to Florida. Original songs and dances about rainforests, biodiversity, energy and natural wonders create kinetic learning experiences with his unique brand of humor and participatory music.

Local conservationists Ron Gagliardo, Amphibian Conservation Coordinator for the Atlanta Botanical Garden and Joe Mendelson, Curator of Amphibians and Herpetology at Zoo Atlanta are great examples of people thinking globally while acting locally!   Ron says, “We’ll be at the festival to share our research and conservation efforts on the Panama Amphibian Crisis by bringing attention to the global spread of the chytrid amphibian fungus, a major cause of global amphibian extinctions.  We’ll have healthy specimens of frogs we’ve cured in our captive breeding project with Zoo Atlanta, to educate the public about the devastating effects on species in the wild.”

Explore environmental themes such as renewable energy including bio-diesel, energy conservation, wildlife conservation and appreciation, water quality, recycling, native plants and entomology through fun activities provided by the following groups:

General Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children 3-12, children 2 and under is free.  Free admission will be given to those who ride a bike!  A free shuttle bus service will be provided from overflow parking lots at St. Francis Day School located at the intersection of Azalea and Willeo Roads.
